1. Service Description

Boksmart is a B2B software-as-a-service platform that helps book publishers manage their book catalog, track sales across multiple sales channels, and calculate and pay royalties to authors. The service is provided by Boksmart AS (org. no. 930 561 924), Østervågkaien 21, 4006 Stavanger, Norway.

2. Account Types

  • Publisher administrator: manages the publisher’s account, books, contracts, and royalty calculations. Created upon registration or invitation.
  • Author: invited by a publisher administrator. Authors can view their contracts, royalty calculations, and payment history.

Publisher administrators are responsible for managing author access within their organization.

3. User Responsibilities

By using Boksmart, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Keep your login credentials secure and not share them with unauthorized parties.
  • Use the service only for its intended purpose, which is book publishing administration.
  • Comply with applicable laws, including data protection regulations when entering personal data about authors or other individuals.

4. Integrations and Third-Party Data

Boksmart integrates with external services to import and synchronize data:

  • Forlagssentralen (FS): book metadata, orders, and inventory data are synchronized automatically based on the publisher’s credentials.
  • Sentraldistribusjon (SD): order and inventory data synchronized via SFTP.
  • Shopify: publishers authorize Boksmart to access product and order data via OAuth. Boksmart uses this data exclusively for sales tracking and royalty calculations. Publishers can disconnect the integration at any time from the organization settings.
  • WooCommerce: order and product data synchronized via API based on credentials provided by the publisher.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to share data from these third-party services with Boksmart.

5. Intellectual Property

All rights to the Boksmart platform, including software, design, and documentation, belong to Boksmart AS. Your use of the service does not grant you any ownership rights to the platform.

You retain all rights to your own data (book metadata, sales data, author information, etc.) entered into or imported through the platform.

6. Limitation of Liability

Boksmart AS provides the service “as is.” While we strive for accuracy and reliability, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Boksmart AS shall not be liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability is limited to the fees you have paid for the service during the 12 months preceding the claim.

7. Data Processing

Our processing of personal data is described in our privacy policy. By using the service, you confirm that you have read and understood our privacy practices.

8. Termination and Data Deletion

Either party may terminate the service agreement in accordance with the terms of the applicable service contract. Upon termination, all data associated with your account will be deleted within 30 days, unless retention is required by law.
